c4tour Rape is a type of assault that forces an individual to have sexual intercourse. It is one of the most serious crimes and it is against international laws. Rape is prosecuted all over the world although thus may be difficult because some victims refuse to speak thus making it hard to prove.
Rape comes for the the Latin word rapere, meaning to take by force or violence. The term did not carry a sexual connotation but as time passed, the word developed into its present meaning. Rape used to be regarded as a female issue because it was thought that only women are victims of rape. But today, rape is considered serious crime that can be committed by a male or female.

The scope and range of rape cases differs from every jurisdiction. Some countries consider any form of forceful sex act that leads to sexual intercourse as rape. Sexual intercourse may be defined as vaginal penetration or anal penetration by a penis. Some countries rule that penetrations with the use of other body parts like finger or fingers are considered rape. Penetrations with the use of other objects like a bottle or a stick is also considered as rape. Some jurisdictions rule that any activity thats forcefully use the sexual organs of either parties is still considered as rape, that includes masturbation and oral sex. In Brazil, only vaginal penetration is considered rape. Male rape, anal rape and oral rape are not considered as rape crimes but only as âviolent attempt against someone's modestyâ.
Generally rape is any sexual activity that involves force and the victim did not or cannot give any consent at the time of the incident. Even if consent is given by the other party, it is not usually valid when the victim:
is under the influence of alcohol or,
is being forced through balckmail or,
is mentally impaired or,
is below the age of consent (age of consent depends on the country)

After being raped, the victim often experiences different intense emotions. Victims may be severely traumatized by the event and may need counseling or psychological therapy. Nightmares, intense anxiety and memory flashbacks may occur to the victim. Feelings of anger, anxiety, distraught and denial is also common with victims of rape. A rape victim may have a hard time trusting people again because of fear they may be raped again. Some rape victims try to live in isolation as their way of coping up with the traumatic event. Rape or sexual assault may have lifetime effects on the victims and some of them may not live normal lives again. In extreme cases, a rape victim may commit suicide.

Although rape is a very sensitive issue, it is often depicted graphically in pornography. Pornographic materials concentrating on rape and sexual abuse is a popular pornography niche. This may be offensive to some people especially to those who became victims of rape, but it is still very popular especially in the Internet. Some pornographic websites specialize in producing rape âfantasyâ films for commercial use. Rape and sexual abuse websites often show a recorded incident of a sexual assault, but these films are usually scripted and the ârapistâ and âvictimâ are actually paid actors.
