Masturbation refers to a sexual stimulation of genitalia up to the point of orgasm and/or ejaculation. This a sexual stimulation of one's own genitals. Masturbation is often done alone, but mutual masturbation between partners is not uncommon.

There are quite a number of female masturbation techniques available. Manual stimulation of the nipples, vagina and clitoris is the most common technique. Fingering, or the insertion of finger/s into the vagina to stimulate the g-spot is also a popular way of masturbation. Fingering may also require artificial lubricant depending on the person performing it. Female practitioners sometimes use sex toys such as dildos, vibrators and in extreme cases a sybian.

The most common male masturbation techniques is the stroking of an erect penis until the point of ejaculation. Fondling of the nipples and the scrotum (testicles) is also done by some male practitioners. Masturbation with the aid of external objects such as sex toys can is also done by people. An artificial vagina is sometimes used in masturbation to simulate the sensation of sexual intercourse. These can be purchased of be homemade. Upon ejaculation, the semen can be controlled by the use of condom or tissue paper. Suppressing ejaculation is not recommended and can backfire (literally!)
